Industrial Machines

Industrial or commercial sewing machines are used by garment manufacturers and in some casers, consumers who are looking for a faster and more professional job than is provided by household sewing machines. Most commercial machines have two main components, the sewing machine and the stand. The stand is where the heavy duty motor is located which gives the machine its power and speed. The size of the motors vary but normally it’s not less than one-half horsepower with a miniumum of a 1750 rpm motor. This is what gives the speed to the machines and normally pulleys are used. For example, if you use a four inch pulley on a 3450 rpm motor, you can achieve a sewing speed of 4500 spm(stitches per minute). The high speed lockstitch Consew Model 292R sewing machine achieves 5500 spm by this method. This is a speed that most home seamstresses simply can’t handle because of the lack of control. The other main differences between home machines and industrials machines is the number of stitches. The home machine can be a simple straight stitch upwards to 100’s of stitches, whereas industrial machines are rarely more than a straight stich or maybe a zigzag, You would have to purchase a machine for each type of stitch required which is more money than the average consumer wants to spend.
